Australian airline Qantas Airways has said that the maintenance base for the new Airbus A320 aircraft, operated by its low-cost unit Jetstar, will be in Australia.
The regional maintenance centre at Newcastle Airport in New South Wales won a multi-million dollar tender to provide ongoing heavy maintenance for Jetstar's new fleet of Airbus A320s.
Qantas had reportedly also considered sending the work to Melbourne, New Zealand or Singapore.
The contract will secure around 100 jobs at the Jetstar engineering facility in Newcastle and additional jobs may be created.
