Etihad signs engine contract with Rolls-Royce

United Arab Emirates-based carrier Etihad Airways said on Thursday (17 February) it had signed a contract with Rolls-Royce for engines to power Airbus aircraft, including four A380 superjumbos.
The 48 ordered engines included 24 for 12 twin-engined Airbus A330-200s, 16 for the four-engined A380s and eight spares, said an Etihad spokesperson.
Under the terms of the deal, which is said to be worth USD950m, Rolls-Royce will also provide 10 years of maintenance. The deliveries are to begin in January 2006.
