United Airlines intends to recall 150 pilots to cover its schedule for the rest of 2005.

The airline has said that it expects to recall 75 pilots in the spring and a further 75 later, which will allow United Airlines to maintain its on-time performance. The airline has the sixth best on-time record among US carriers in 2004 with the best record among the so-called legacy carriers, being on time 79.7% of the time, according to a report from the US Department of Transportation.

According to The Associated Press, the five top on-time performers were Hawaiian Airlines, SkyWest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and ATA Airlines.
