Three senior executives of Irish state-owned airline Aer Lingus said on Wednesday (12 January) that they will leave the company earlier than planned.

However, the executives denied government accusations that they had conflicts of interest.

Chief Executive Willie Walsh, Chief Financial Officer Brian Dunne and Chief Operations Officer Seamus Kearney declined to confirm reports that they are planning to establish a private airline in competition with Aer Lingus after they leave the national carrier on 28 January.

When the three executives announced their resignation two months ago they intended to stay with Aer Lingus until May, but they were forced to leave the airline earlier when Irish newspapers reported that they want to launch a new airline.
