Record number of passengers at British airports

A record 140.1 million air passengers travelled through the major British airports in 2004.
The figure is 6.9% higher than in 2003, the British Airports Authority (BAA) said on Wednesday (12 January).
According to the report the greatest increase was at Southampton Airport in southern England, where passenger numbers rose by 25.7% to 1.53 million. The number of passengers using Stansted Airport north of London increased by 11.7% to 20.9 million while London's Gatwick Airport recorded a 5% increase to 31.4 million and Heathrow showed an increase of 6.2% to 67.1 million.
In Scotland, Edinburgh recorded a 7% increase in passengers to almost 8 million, Glasgow's passenger traffic rose 5.5% to 8.56 million and Aberdeen was up 5% at 2.64 million.
