The US Federal Aviation Administration released a draft environmental study on Thursday (13 January) that raises no objections to Chicago's USD15bn plan to expand O'Hare airport.

The FAA report rejects several alternative proposals put forward by opponents to reduce delays, including diverting aircraft to other airports nearby.

The expansion plan includes the construction of longer and wider runways and taxiways, new terminals and parking spaces for larger jets and passenger jet bridges.

Public hearings on the study are scheduled for February, and the final FAA decision on the expansion is expected in September.
