Poland has introduced a law that authorises the government to order hijacked aircraft to be shot down.

Under the legislation the Polish defence minister or air force chief can order the downing of a civilian or military aircraft that has been taken over by hijackers who refuse to land.

A similar law was introduced by Germany last week.
