US aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co has revealed that it will end production of its smallest passenger jet, the Boeing 717, in 2006.

Alan Mulally, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said that the aircraft market did not support continuing 717 production beyond the deliveries of current commitments. If no more of the single-aisle, 100-seat aircraft are ordered the last 717 will be finished in May 2006.

The end of the production will mean that Boeing will take a charge in 2006 of USD340m, or USD0.27 per share. There would also be additional expenses of some USD45m between 2005 and 2007.
