Firefighters at Glasgow airport, Scotland, have voted to strike in protest over safety issues, Transport and General Workers' Union officials said on Friday (21 January).

The union members are due to start the strike at 1200 GMT on 29 January because of plans to stop the Scottish airport's firefighters dealing with incidents inside the terminal. The new plan, under which the local fire brigade would respond to incidents at the terminal, would increase the response times from two to 14 minutes, the union claims.

BAA plc, which runs the airport, denied that safety issues were the reason for the strike and said the action would not affect travel plans, reported The Associated Press.
