Alaska Air Group, the parent company of Alaska Airlines, announced on Friday (28 January) that its quarterly net loss had increased due to charges for restructuring and losses on fuel hedging.

The airline reported a fourth-quarter loss of USD44.9m, or USD1.66 a share, compared with a loss of USD16.1m, or USD0.60 a share in 2003. However, excluding a number of one-time items including a restructuring charge and hedging losses, the fourth-quarter loss would have been USD14.3m, or USD0.53 per share, said the company.

The fourth-quarter passenger traffic increased by 10.2%, while capacity rose 5%, the airline said.
