United Airlines said on Thursday (6 January) that its low-cost carrier Ted will begin service from Chicago's Midway International Airport in April 2005.

The new services will put Ted in closer competition with other discount carriers such as Southwest Airlines.

Ted will offer three daily flights between Midway and Denver, and two daily flights between Midway and Washington's Dulles International Airport. The fares will start at USD104 to Denver and USD79 to Washington. Tickets are available now, and flights will begin on 3 April. The new Ted services will be operated with 156-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

The Ted service at Midway is aimed to complement United's existing mainline service between Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Denver and Washington Dulles.
