Maersk Air sells charter operations to Iceland's Fons

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Danish multi-sector group AP Moller-Maersk A/S said Thursday (30 June) it will sell the charter activities and scheduled services of its airline unit Maersk Air to Iceland's Fons Eignarhaldsfelag hf.
Fons Eignarhaldsfelag is the owner of low-budget Copenhagen-based airline Sterling, which after the deal will become the largest low-budget carrier in the Nordic region, reported the Associated Press.
The deal is expected to be concluded within one or two months, pending competition authority approval, Maersk said.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
