The airline industry needs to consolidate, according to the Singapore Airlines CEO Chew Choon Seng.

The industry will need to consolidate as the continued increase in oil prices is reducing profits, Chew said. Singapore Airlines and Qantas Airways are discussing shared maintenance facilities for the Airbus A380 aircraft, the chief executive told the Australian Nine Network's programme 'Business Sunday'.

Yeo Cheow Tong, Singapore's transport minister, said however that it is unlikely that the two airlines will consider a merger inthe current regulatory situation.
