Imair, a privately held Azerbaijan airline, is to launch regular direct flights to northern Cyprus.

The airline will reportedly be the first non-Turkish airline to fly directly to Turkish-run northern Cyprus. Azerbaijan is joining Turkey in pushing to have the embargo on the northern part of the island lifted, being the second country after Turkey to recognise Turkish Cypriot passports, Reuters reported.

Flights are to commence on 31 July and will be operated weekly to Ercan airport, according to Alexander Guliyev, director of the airline's partner Improtex Travel.
