Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia said Monday (13 June) it has signed a deal to buy engines from European aircraft maker Airbus for its new fleet of aircraft.

In March AirAsia signed an order to buy 60 Airbus A320-200 aircraft for MYR14.4bn. In a statement to the local stock exchange, AirAsia said it will also buy 120 engines and nine spare engines from Airbus for the 60 aircraft, in a deal worth USD750m.

The new aircraft, complete with the installed engines, are to be delivered over a period of up to six years, and the first two aircraft are scheduled for delivery in December 2005.
