Airline Industry Information, June 30, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

FlightCore, a new wireless communications system for aircraft, has been unveiled by TECORE Wireless Systems.

According to TECORE, the system combines GSM, CDMA, Wi-Fi and IP phone access, together with a base station and AirCore Soft Mobile Switching Centre, and is on trial with an airborne operator. TECORE claims that when the GSM network is combined with CDMA the system is still only the size of a small suitcase.

The system's operations are said to be coordinated with aircraft instruments to enable mobile users to access services such as voice, e-mail, Internet and instant messaging when subscribing to the in-flight service. FlightCore is available now, while in-flight regulations for mobile phone and wireless data use are being finalised.

No pricing information was given.
