UAL Corp, the parent company of United Airlines, has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to install wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) aboard the airline's aircraft.

The FAA has reportedly given approval for the necessary cabin equipment needed for the Wi-Fi connection to be installed. The connection will be provided aboard domestic US flights in cooperation with Verizon Communications Inc, The Associated Press reported.

The airline has said that it will be the first domestic US airline to provide wireless connectivity to its passengers. The two partners will have to receive Federal Communications Commission approval before the service can be officially launched. A date for the official launch is apparently expected in the next couple of months, while the launch is expected within the next year.

Other airlines that offer Wi-Fi connectivity reportedly include Germany's Lufthansa and Japan Airlines.
