A joint session has been held by leaders for the pilot groups of America West (NYSE: AWA) and US Airways (OTC Bulletin Board: UAIRQ).

The pilots are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), and the joint session was reportedly held to discuss issues of mutual concern relating to the proposed transaction between the two airlines. According to the union, the pilots received briefings from union staff and advisers on issues such as US Airways' bankruptcy, transaction details and merger policy.

The union also said that the pilots explored ways to work together toward each group's mutual benefit and future. There are reportedly shared concerns about contract enforcement and enhancements, job security and protections and pilot seniority.

The union added that US Airways has received permission from the Bankruptcy Court to review alternate plans of reorganisation proposals for a 30-day period. This period will end on 1 July. If no proposals are received by that date, the merger agreement and investment agreements will be considered the approved proposal without a court action.
