US Airways has revealed plans to remove 11 mainline aircraft from service starting in May, in order to cut costs and reduce capacity.

The carrier plans to take out of service 11 older model Boeing 737s, which means that its mainline fleet will decrease from 282 to 271 aircraft. The company has not yet decided which 737s to ground, but it will probably choose the ones that need a lot of maintenance and expensive upgrades, according to Reuters.

US Airways also plans to eliminate service to San Salvador, El Salvador and Panama City, Panama, and cut one daily departure each between Charlotte and Atlanta, Raleigh Durham, Orlando and West Palm Beach, as well as one daily departure between Philadelphia and Hartford, Buffalo, Norfolk, Seattle, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. In addition three flights from Philadelphia to Tampa will be discontinued.

The carrier said that it does not expect the changes to result in job reductions.
