A flight attendant arriving in Australia from Vietnam has been found to be carrying 16 highly endangered Asian Arowana fish in his baggage.

The man, who has not been named, reportedly carried the fish in water-filled plastic bags in his luggage, customs officials said. Something unusual was spotted in an X-ray of the luggage and an official at Melbourne International Airport decided to search the bags, The Associated Press reported.

If the man is found guilty of smuggling wildlife into Australia he could be sentenced to up to ten years in jail and a maximum fine of USD87,000.
