AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
United Airlines is launching a new advertising campaign against its rival American Airlines.
The new campaign, starting in Chicago this week, targets American Airlines' decision to add more first-class seats to its aircraft, reducing leg room elsewhere. The ads carry such tag lines as "Fly American and you could kick yourself. Literally" and "The Straight Story on our Legroom vs. American".
The ads are part of a larger national campaign promoting United's Economy Plus section. Economy Plus features a 34- to 36-inch seat pitch, three to five inches more than the industry standard, although availability is limited.
