A man died after being subdued by fellow passengers on an American Airlines flight last week.

The 48-year-old man had allegedly become loud and disruptive during the flight from Los Angeles to New York on Friday (18 March) after flight attendants refused to serve him alcohol.

The flight crew put flexible handcuffs on the man and after getting out of his seat he was also restrained by seven passengers, who reportedly held him on his back on the galley floor until the flight landed.

Port Authority police boarded the flight when it arrived at JFK International Airport and administered CPR to the man, however he was pronounced dead after being removed from the aircraft. Prosecutors are investigating the death.
