Police evicted striking mechanics of Serbian carrier JAT Airways from aircraft maintenance hangars at Belgrade airport on Thursday (24 March).

About 600 workers, who had blocked the hangars, were demanding more than double their salaries, which are currently around CSD30,000 a month. The government refused their demands and said that the strikers would be suspended from work.

The week-long strike is costing JAT an estimated EUR400,000 a day.
