The Fairchild Metroliner aircraft that crashed into a hillside in Australia on 7 May had experienced a minor engine problem last month, according to its operating company.

Transair, which owned and operated the aircraft under an agreement with the airline Aero-Tropics, said that the engine had been repaired and had since flown up to 70 hours.

The two pilots and 13 passengers on board were killed in the crash.

The cause of the crash is not yet known, but the voice and flight data recorders have been retrieved.
