Turkish airline Onur Air has been banned from flying in or out of the Netherlands for the next month because of repeated safety lapses, the Dutch Transportation Ministry said on Thursday (12 May).

During the ban Onur Air must show that it has carried out structural improvements to guarantee safety, the ministry's traffic and waterways inspection service said.

Onur Air claimed that the Dutch move was aimed at eliminating Turkish companies from the Dutch market and that the charges of poor safety were baseless. According to the carrier, the decision was based on a single technical problem last week.
