Sydney airport baggage handlers are suspected of drug smuggling, according to a leaked report.

A Customs department report said that baggage handlers were stealing from passengers and also diverted bags containing drugs from international flights to domestic baggage carousels, avoiding customs, The Australian reported.

The newspaper said that in one case, one gang of baggage handlers was reported to have removed bags containing ten kilograms of cocaine from an international flight before X-ray.

The Australian transport minister John Anderson reportedly said that the government has not seen the report, but that many of the problems mentioned have been dealt with. The report is from September last year.
