The US Department of Transportation has named Alaska Airlines to fly between Los Angeles and Mexico City, replacing Delta Air Lines which has ceased service between the two cities.

Under the US-Mexico aviation agreement two US airlines may provide nonstop service between any US and any Mexican city. The Los Angeles-Mexico City route was operated by Delta and United Airlines, before Delta ceased its service in January. Apart from Alaska, America West Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines applied for the route.
