The European Union and the United States will return to the negotiating table on 17 October.

The European Commission has said that the EU and the US will return to talks on how to open the aviation industry on both sides to more competition. Negotiations are to take place in Brussels, Belgium.

The open skies talks are expected to cover areas such as opening up access, rights to buy airline stakes and allowing EU carriers equal rights at US airports.

The previous round of talks, in 2004, stalled when the EU wanted more access for its airlines to the US domestic market, Reuters reported.
