American Eagle, a regional affiliate of AMR Corp, has cancelled 558 flights in October because of high fuel costs.

The airline said that the flights, which amount to about 22 a day, represent about 1% of its about 1,700 scheduled daily flights. American Eagle has not cut service to any cities and said that it had examined its markets where it has several daily flights and where it would be possible to rebook passengers for connecting flights, The Associated Press reported.

The cancellations were started on 5 October and will be in effect through to 29 October.
