American Airlines has said that from 1 November the airline's gift cards are available in USD50 and USD100 denominations at participating grocery stores, including Tom Thumb, Randalls, Vons, Pavilions, Carrs, Safeway, Genuardi's and Dominick's.

The cards will reportedly replace the traditional paper gift certificates and can be redeemed online at AA.com for the purchase of air travel originating in the US, US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico on flights operated by American Airlines, American Eagle and AmericanConnection airlines. American Airlines Gift Cards do not expire and have no fees to keep the card active.
