Takeoff of a Northwest Airlines flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was cancelled on Monday (3 October).

The crew of the DC-9 reported a problem with one of the aircraft's engines and the aircraft was towed back to the gate. Northwest did not specify what the problem was, but local press reports claimed that flames were seen shooting from an engine.

The 64 passengers continued their journey to Minot, North Dakota on another aircraft.

Northwest Airlines' mechanics are currently on strike and the airline is using replacement workers in order to maintain its schedule.
