The city of Chicago has appealed a decision to halt the development of its O'Hare airport.

A US federal appeals court was reportedly asked to allow the construction work to carry on at the airport after it was temporarily halted last Friday (30 September) only hours after being approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration. The work was halted due to an emergency motion from the USD15bn project's opponents. The opponents include a church, claiming that the expansion would desecrate a cemetery with 1,300 tombs, some of which date back to the 1800s.

The aim of the airport expansion is to relieve flight delays by adding and reconfiguring runways as well as building a new terminal, The Associated Press reported.
