Airline Industry Information, Sept 1, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE: DAL), which is thought likely to file for bankruptcy, could see the effects of Hurricane Katrina speed up the process.

According to rating agency Standard & Poor's, the hurricane could hasten the bankruptcy of the airline and also add to the problems affecting the rest of the US aviation industry. Standard & Poor's also said that it is the indirect effect on fuel prices more than any direct effects that is likely to cause problems for airline operations, making it likely that Delta will file for bankruptcy within weeks.

Delta has declined to comment, Reuters reported.
