US airlines ask White House and Congress for tax relief

US airlines have asked the White House and Congress for USD600m in tax relief.
The airlines said that they have sought a one-year relief from the tax of USD0.43 per gallon of aircraft fuel. According to Air Transport Association spokesman Jack Evans, the association has discussed the matter with the Department of Transportation.
ATA president James May is to present the proposal on 14 September at a Senate hearing, The Associated Press reported.
