A US family that was on board the flight that crashed in Peru last month is reportedly planning to sue aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co.

A total of 58 of the 98 people on board the aircraft operated by Peruvian state-run airline TANS survived the crash, including the family from New York now planning legal action.

The Boeing 737-200 aircraft crash-landed in a marsh and broke apart on impact on 23 August. An investigation is being held in an effort to establish the cause of the accident.

A lawyer representing the Vivas family has claimed that the aircraft has "a series of design and manufacturing flaws" which mean that Boeing can be held responsible.

It has not yet been revealed how much the family of six is planning to seek in damages.
