El Al Israel Airlines wants to become a global airline, according to its chairman Israel Borovich.

Borovich said that the airline wants to become a global carrier like some of the carriers of other small countries, including Dubai's Emirates. The chairman told Reuters that El Al next week aims to finalise a strategic plan that will take it through to 2010. The company is reportedly also making a decision on whether to acquire its next two aircraft from US-based Boeing, staying with the same manufacturer, or whether it should make its first ever order with European aircraft maker Airbus.

El Al, expecting to have the aircraft in the air by 2007, said that it is considering buying either two Boeing 777s or two Airbus A330s or A340s.
