Phuket Air, a Thai airline, has been ordered to ground five aircraft by the country's transport minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal.

The order to ground the propeller aircraft was given two days after one of the aircraft skidded off a runway in the north of Thailand. The ban is not the first in recent months for the airline, which saw its long-haul flights banned from landing in France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom because of safety concerns.

The minister said that he had ordered the YS-11 aircraft to stay on the ground for safety reasons. Pongsak declined to say when the order might be lifted, The Associated Press reported.
