Northwest Airlines (NasdaqNM:NWAC) has said that its common stock will cease trading on the Nasdaq stock market.

According to the airline, which filed for bankruptcy last week, the stock will cease trading on 26 September. Northwest reportedly received written notification on 15 September 2005 from Nasdaq that its common stock will be delisted in accordance with Marketplace Rules 4300, 4450(f) and IM-4300.

Because of the exchange notification, the fifth character "Q" will be added to the company's trading symbol, which will change from NWAC to NWACQ at the opening of business on 19 September 2005. Northwest however said that, once delisted, shares could still be traded in the "over-the-counter" market.
