Inhabitants and air traffic on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula are threatened by seismic activity, according to local experts.

The northernmost active volcano in Kamchatka, Mount Shiveluch, could threaten villages and towns with ash emissions while also disrupting air routes, according to seismologists with the Federal Centre for Earthquake Prediction. The seismologists however said that they do not expect earthquakes above seven on the Richter scale in the coming week, the Russian news agency Novosti reported.
