Independence Air to cut services to the US west coast

Airline Industry Information, Sept 28, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Independence Air is to end its service between Seattle and Washington, DC.

The airline launched the service in May this year, operating one daily roundtrip between the two cities. The last flight will be operated on 28 November, ending the carrier's hopes to compete with United Airlines and Alaska Airlines on the route. Independence Air is reorganising its route system to cut costs and will also end service to Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego, the Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

The parent company of Independence Air, Flyi Inc (NASDAQ: FLYI), has been suggested as the next US airline to apply for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
