China Southern orders Airbus aircraft

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

China Southern Airlines has signed an agreement to purchase ten Airbus A330 aircraft.

The estimated value of the order is USD1.5bn according to list prices and the aircraft ordered are in addition to four previously purchased from Airbus. It includes eight A330-300s and two A330-200s, to be delivered in 2007 and 2008.

The announcement of the order was made during a summit between European and Chinese leaders in China. The aim of the summit is to boost business between China and the European Union, The Associated Press reported.

Iain Gray, the British manager of Airbus, said the order is an important one in a very important market.
