Italian flight attendants intend to carry out a planned strike this week despite a ban on the action.

The Sult union, representing the flight attendants, has said that the strike will go ahead as planned despite a ban from the government. The transport ministry issued orders for the strike to be postponed last week and threatened to carry out sanctions against those who take part.

Italian airline Alitalia has reportedly not cancelled any flights over the strike but it is expected to cause serious disruptions.

Although the strike was originally set for 30-31 August, it was postponed because Italian law bans strikes during August, when the travel industry is very busy.

The two-day strike was set to start today (6 September) at 00:01 local time (22:01 GMT) and end on 7 September at 23.59 local time (21:59 GMT), The Associated Press reported.

The union has denied claims from Alitalia that it does not adhere to agreements, while the airline has refused to recognise Sult as a party in negotiations due to these claims.
