Germany's Lufthansa has said that it is considering outsourcing ground handling services in Germany as a way of cutting costs.

The airline, which is reportedly facing stiffer competition, has also negotiated a 10% cut in entry salaries at the LSG catering unit in Germany. The lower starting salaries were agreed to in return for job guarantees. The airline also pledged not to sell the majority of the business for at least three years, Reuters reported.

Lufthansa also said that it is discussing a new pay structure with the Verdi union.
