Night flights to the main airport in Guyana, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, have been suspended temporarily due to equipment failure.

Officials reportedly said that the barometer pressure equipment, allowing the air traffic control tower to tell pilots their height above sea level, stopped working late on Wednesday (26 April). This means that it would be dangerous to operate flights at the airport after dark.

The director of the airport, M.S. Khan, said that the equipment is expected to be replaced over the weekend, The Associated Press reported.
