Vladimir Kuropatenko, president of Sayakhat Airlines, has rejected claims that the cargo airline may have delivered weapons to rebels in Somalia.

The airline, described as Kazakhstan's largest cargo airline, has rejected local media speculation, with the carrier's president calling the reports "complete nonsense and lies".

According to The Associated Press, Kuropatenko said that the airline is not operating any flights in Africa or leasing any of its aircraft to the region.

The local media speculation reportedly followed reports of an Ilyushin-76 cargo aircraft with the Kazakh flag on its tail having been sighted as landing in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on 26 and 28 July.
