United Airlines, a subsidiary of UAL Corp (Nasdaq: UAUA), has said that it will be closing a reservation call centre in Sterling, located in the Washington DC area.

The company said that the call centre employs more than 400 people.

According to The Associated Press, the airline has informed county officials that the call centre will be closing on 16 October. United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said the decision to close the call centre reflects the increasing number of people who choose to book online.
