Michael O'Leary, the chief executive of Ryanair, has reportedly told the UK's House of Commons Transport Committee that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is "incompetent".

O'Leary also reportedly accused the CAA of taxing passengers too heavily. The CAA's suggested GBP1 charge on air tickets to protect passengers should airlines fail was described by the Ryanair boss as a "tax on passengers".

In addition O'Leary was also critical of airport operator BAA and of National Air Traffic Services (Nats), which runs the UK's air traffic control operation, reported Ireland On-Line.
