Record increase in May passenger traffic reported by Canadian airlines

Air Canada and WestJet Airlines Ltd recorded more sold seats in May as compared to the same month in 2005.

Air Canada, a unit of ACE Aviation Holdings Inc, reported a load factor of 83.2%, as compared to 79.9% in May 2005. The airline's revenue passenger miles increased 2.7% on a capacity decrease of 1.4%.

Jazz, an Air Canada unit, reported a load factor of 72.6% as compared to 72.8% for the same month last year, and its capacity increased by two-thirds, Reuters reported.

WestJet recorded a load factor of 76.9%, as compared to 70.6% for the same period in 2005. The revenue passenger miles increased by 32% on a 21% capacity increase.
