Northwest Airlines (OTC: NWACQ.PK) has stated that it is to open a new reservations call centre in Sioux City, Iowa to deal with incoming domestic reservations calls.

The carrier said the new call centre is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2007 and will employ up to 300 reservations sales agents and management personnel. The facility will occupy renovated office space within the former JCPenney department store building in downtown Sioux City.

In addition Northwest announced that its Baltimore-based reservations centre will close on 31 March 2008. As a result of the closure the carrier will handle customer calls through its other US call centres.

The airline said that the 183 employees based at the Baltimore centre have been given the opportunity to transfer to one of Northwest's reservations centres in Chisholm, Minn., Minneapolis, Seattle, Sioux City, Iowa and Tampa, Fla., or offered a severance package.
