AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The USD1.4bn acquisition of Worldspan L.P. has been completed by Travelport Limited, the parent company of the Travelport group of companies, reportedly making it one of the largest networks of travel brands, content and service offerings in the world.

The expanded global footprint, customer service track record and technology position will allow it to serve as a more effective, efficient travel distribution provider and allow its global team to meet changing customer needs, according to Jeff Clarke, president and CEO of Travelport and chairman of Orbitz Worldwide.

Clarke said the companies will work on enhancements and operational efficiencies, to include systems integrity and ease-of-use, capitalising on Galileo and Worldspan's GDS knowledge and experience.

Travelport's GDS division said Worldspan's online distribution technology platform will enhance Galileo, while Worldspan will gain from Galileo's expanded supplier base and expansive content. It claimed the companies will generate improved offerings for agency and supplier customers, with Travelport customers to gain from an enhanced shopping experience, fast re-price system and additional localised content.
